Nothing has really gone right for the Mets in a long time. They practically have Double-A players set to start Opening Day 2013 in their outfield, and only David Wright’s long term contract is something to be excited about as Cy Young Award winning pitcher R.A. Dickey looks to be moved this season.

But baseball failures can not stop a franchise and its leaders from giving back to the community.

This past week, longtime Met’s PR man Jay Horwitz joined Twitter. And, to draw excitement for the Met’s on social media through a friendly wager, Met’s COO Jeff Wilpon challenged Horwitz to get ten-thousand followers by midnight last Friday.

Horwitz met his goal and today Wilpon paid up.

And as Horwitz said, Wilpon really did come through “BIG TIME:”

The foundation that the check will go to is Hope Shines for Shannon and is in honor of one of Horwitz’ colleagues, Shannon Forde, whom is battling stage 4 breast cancer.
